Code of Professional Standards

CIMA members commit to a set of professional standards that govern their work with clients, the public, and fellow practitioners.

1

Honest Representation

Members represent their services, capabilities, and results truthfully. Case studies and testimonials reflect actual client outcomes and are presented in context.

2

Transparent Pricing

Members provide clients with clear pricing, scope of work, and reporting. Hidden fees, undisclosed margins, or misleading retainer structures are inconsistent with CIMA membership.

3

Ethical SEO and Marketing Practice

Members commit to marketing practices that align with the published guidelines of the platforms they work on. This includes search engines (Google, Bing), advertising platforms (Google Ads, Meta), and emerging AI search systems.

4

Client Data Stewardship

Member agencies handle client data, advertising accounts, website credentials, and analytics access with appropriate care. Ownership remains with the client, and members provide reasonable transition support when engagements end.

5

Continuous Education

Members commit to keeping current with platform changes, regulatory developments (including PIPEDA and CASL), and emerging best practices in their service areas.

6

Professional Conduct

Members treat clients, the public, and fellow practitioners with respect. Complaints about member conduct can be directed to the association for review.
